Agile Coach : Facilitating sprint ceremonies and setting the ways of working and methodology

Facilitating Sprint Ceremonies

Guided by the principles of Agile Scrum, I led the team as a Scrum Master.

We built iteratively in 2 week sprints and released app updates at the end of each sprint.

Setting Ways of Working and Building Culture

As I co-led the set up of a new product team spread across 4 time zones (Singapore, India, Vietnam and Sweden), the way we work and the underlying team culture were critical for success, and therefore a constant area of focus for me.

Focus areas:

Ways of Working

Culture Building

  • Product management framework

  • Knowledge base

  • Team culture and principles

  • Team rhythms

Designing the Product Management Framework

I helped guide product strategy from ideation to execution by referencing product management frameworks in a selective manner. For example, employing design thinking practices in the research and analysis phase, and RICE (Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort) analysis when prioritising features.

Setting Up Knowledge Base

I helped set up best practices as having transparency on context, common team language, terminologies, and processes minimises second guessing and enables the team to focus on problem solving and delivery.

Building Team Culture, Principles and Rhythm

I focused on fostering an honest and collaborative environment, where every team member feels valued and empowered, and are equally responsible for the success of the product.

I do this through:

  • Providing honest feedback, e.g. during design critique sessions.

  • Being unafraid to admit my mistakes and learn from it.

  • Being aware of how my work affects others from my team, e.g. when writing product specifications, it needs to be clear, succinct and written in plain language.

  • Not hiring a project manager – everyone is responsible for managing and providing visibility of their own work.

  • Respecting everyone’s time – plan frequent but clearly time boxed meetings

  • Rhythms:

    • Fortnightly 1:1 check-ins with team mates

    • Sprint retrospectives to celebrate small wins and learn from mistakes

    • Frequent ad-hoc critique sessions to review work
